PassMyKitchen works on any phone, tablet, or computer with a web browser. You do not need to download it from an app store. Just visit passmykitchen.com, log in, and add it to your home screen for one-tap access. The entire setup takes under a minute, and you get a full-screen app experience with your compliance score and daily tasks ready the moment you open it.
Whether you are Marcus logging temperatures between orders on a taco truck or a catering manager reviewing checklists before a weekend event, PassMyKitchen is designed to go wherever your kitchen goes. This guide walks you through setup on every device, plus tips for getting the most out of the mobile experience.
What is a Progressive Web App (and why PassMyKitchen is one)
A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a website that behaves like a native app when you add it to your home screen. It opens in full screen without browser toolbars, loads quickly, and can store some data for use when your connection is spotty. Google's PWA documentation explains the technical details, but the short version is: you get the convenience of an app without the hassle of an app store download.
PassMyKitchen is built as a PWA because food operators use a wide range of devices. Some have the latest iPhone. Others share an older Android tablet in the kitchen. A PWA works across all of them without requiring separate downloads or updates. When the PassMyKitchen team ships an improvement, you get it the next time you open the app. No waiting for app store approval, no manual update button.
The PWA opens to the Today screen at /today, which shows your compliance score, daily tasks, and anything that needs your attention. The app uses the PassMyKitchen terracotta theme color and runs in standalone mode, so it looks and feels like any other app on your phone.
Setting up PassMyKitchen on iPhone (iOS)
If you use an iPhone or iPad, you must use Safari to add PassMyKitchen to your home screen. Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers on iOS do not support the "Add to Home Screen" feature for PWAs. This is an Apple WebKit limitation, not a PassMyKitchen restriction.
Step 1: Open Safari
Launch Safari on your iPhone. If Safari is not on your home screen, swipe down and search for it.
Step 2: Go to passmykitchen.com
Type passmykitchen.com in the address bar and tap Go.
Step 3: Log in to your account
Enter your email and password. If you have not created an account yet, follow the initial setup guide first.
Step 4: Tap the Share button
At the bottom of Safari (or the top on iPad), tap the Share button. It looks like a square with an upward arrow.
Step 5: Tap "Add to Home Screen"
Scroll down in the Share menu until you see "Add to Home Screen." Tap it.
Step 6: Name it and tap Add
Safari will suggest "PassMyKitchen" as the name. You can keep it as is or shorten it. Tap Add in the top right corner.
That is it. You will now see the PassMyKitchen icon on your home screen. Tap it to open the app directly to the Today screen, no browser bars, no tabs. It works just like a regular app.
Setting up PassMyKitchen on Android
Android makes PWA installation even easier, especially in Chrome. PassMyKitchen includes a built-in install prompt that appears automatically on supported browsers.
Step 1: Open Chrome
Launch Google Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
Step 2: Go to passmykitchen.com and log in
Navigate to passmykitchen.com and sign in with your account credentials. New users should complete the setup guide first.
Step 3: Look for the install banner
On Android with Chrome, you may see a banner at the bottom of the screen that says "Add PassMyKitchen to your home screen for quick access" with an Install button. Tap Install, and the app will be added to your home screen immediately.
If you dismiss the banner (by tapping the X), it will not appear again during that browser session. If you change your mind, you can still install manually.
If the banner does not appear
Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of Chrome. Look for "Add to Home screen" or "Install app" in the menu. Tap it, confirm the name, and the app icon will appear on your home screen.
Once installed, PassMyKitchen opens in standalone mode with the full-screen experience. It launches directly to the Today screen at /today with your compliance score and daily tasks front and center.
Using PassMyKitchen on a tablet or computer
Tablet setup
Setting up PassMyKitchen on a tablet follows the same steps as on a phone. Use Safari on iPad or Chrome on Android tablets. The wider screen gives you more room to view your compliance dashboard, and task lists show more information at a glance without scrolling.
Computer setup
On a desktop or laptop, just visit passmykitchen.com in any modern browser and log in. You can use PassMyKitchen entirely in a browser tab.
If you prefer the standalone app experience on your computer, Chrome and Microsoft Edge both support PWA installation. Click the three-dot menu, then look for "Install PassMyKitchen" or "Install app." The app will open in its own window without browser toolbars, and you can pin it to your taskbar or dock for quick access.
Tips for daily use on your phone
Once PassMyKitchen is on your home screen, it becomes part of your daily routine. Here are a few tips to get the most out of the mobile experience.
Start with the Today screen. Every time you open the app, you land on the Today screen (/today). This is your command center. It shows your compliance score, pending tasks, and anything flagged for attention. One glance tells you where you stand for the day. For a full walkthrough, see our guide on building a daily food safety routine under five minutes.
Log temperatures in seconds. The mobile interface is designed for speed. Large touch targets make it easy to tap through temperature logs even when your hands are busy. Marcus, a food truck operator, logs his holding temperatures between customer orders. It takes less than 15 seconds per reading. Learn more in our guide on how to log food temperatures digitally.
Mobile-first design. PassMyKitchen was built for the way food operators actually work. Buttons are large enough to tap without precision. Forms are short. Navigation is simple. You do not need to pinch and zoom or scroll sideways.
Data syncs automatically. Everything you log on your phone syncs to the cloud when you have an internet connection. Your records appear instantly on any other device where you are logged in. If you lose connection briefly, do not worry. The app handles reconnection gracefully.
Troubleshooting
I do not see the "Add to Home Screen" option
On iPhone or iPad, you must use Safari. Chrome, Firefox, and other iOS browsers do not support adding PWAs to the home screen. Open Safari, navigate to passmykitchen.com, and use the Share button.
On Android, use Chrome for the best experience. The PassMyKitchen install banner only appears in Chrome. If you are using a different browser, switch to Chrome and try again.
The app is not loading
Check your internet connection. PassMyKitchen requires an active connection to load. Try opening another website to confirm your browser is working. If other sites load fine but PassMyKitchen does not, try clearing your browser cache and reloading the page.
I cannot log in
Double-check your email address for typos. If you have forgotten your password, use the "Reset password" option on the login page. If you are still having trouble, contact the PassMyKitchen support team at hello@passmykitchen.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PassMyKitchen available in the App Store?
No. PassMyKitchen is a Progressive Web App, not a native app. You will not find it in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Instead, you add it to your home screen directly from your browser. The experience is nearly identical to a native app: it has its own icon, opens in full screen, and works independently from your browser. This approach means you always have the latest version without manual updates.
Does PassMyKitchen work offline?
PassMyKitchen requires an internet connection to load and sync your data. If you briefly lose connectivity (common on food trucks or at outdoor events), the app will reconnect and sync automatically when your connection returns. For reliable access, make sure you have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
How much storage does PassMyKitchen use on my phone?
Very little. Since PassMyKitchen is a PWA, it caches only a small amount of data on your device. You can expect it to use a few megabytes at most, far less than a typical native app. It will not fill up your phone's storage.
Can multiple people use PassMyKitchen on the same phone?
Yes. Each person can log in with their own credentials. When one user logs out and another logs in, the app loads that person's account. This is useful for shared devices in a kitchen. If you want to learn more about configuring your team, visit the food safety app guide.
Will PassMyKitchen slow down my phone?
No. PassMyKitchen is lightweight and optimized for mobile devices. It does not run background processes or drain your battery. When you close the app, it stops using resources. It is designed to be as fast and responsive as possible, even on older devices.
